A girl with expressive contortion arranges her hair. She stands next to a bed where another young woman is resting and watching her. This simple reading, however, has been revised in the sense that the girl's gesture could have a deeper intention, as an expression of pain or despair, perhaps due to the fact that the young woman lying on the bed was the victim of an illness. Similar in intent are other drawings by Goya, such as Young Woman Weeping by the Dead Body of Her Lover.
